From idea to implementation

Engineering & design

You have an idea, a sketch or just a problem? We turn it into a machine that is easy to operate, maintain and manufacture.

  • Concept and feasibility
  • 3D design and drawings
  • Well-thought-out housing and control design
  • Design engineering to the Machinery Directive
Digital inspection microscope with measuring device, developed in-house by AKS

Simple ideas, better systems

Four steps that dovetail at AKS. You can commission all four or just the part you are missing.

Concept and feasibility

We clarify requirements, constraints and cost-effectiveness before the first line is drawn.

3D design

Complete design in 3D CAD, with manufacturing drawings and bills of materials for every component.

Design and usability

Housings and controls that work in everyday use and look like quality.

Documentation

Technical documentation for manufacturing, operation and the CE marking of your machine.

Engineering or a finished machine?

This page is about our engineering services. The machines and systems that come out of them can be found under Bespoke machines.

A machine that thinks ahead

Good design only shows in operation: short paths for maintenance, clear controls, components that can be replaced without special tools. We settle such questions on the model, not on the shop floor.

From idea to component

Four stages, shown here using our drum lifter as an example. Because we build it ourselves afterwards, we design from the start so that it can actually be manufactured.

On screen

We clarify requirements, installation space and workflows in the model, long before any material is ordered.

Rendering of the drum lifter from the 3D model

In the model

Cross beam, gripping ring and clamping lever are created in 3D CAD. This is where decisions on wall thicknesses, welds and center of gravity are made.

On paper

The model becomes manufacturing drawings and bills of materials that anyone on the shop floor can work with.

On the shop floor

Built, painted and tested in Sprockhövel. Anything we notice there goes straight back into the model.

What comes out of it

Two examples that we took from the first sketch through to series production.

Digital inspection microscope

Developed to check grinding results directly at the machine. Optics, electronics, housing and controls are all our own.

Drum lifter

An in-house development for lifting drums safely by crane. It grew out of a recurring task at a customer's site.

Experience that goes into every design

15,000+ hours

Of development work in our own products and in customer projects.

Covered by our certificate

Planning, development and design engineering are part of the scope of our ISO 9001.

In-house manufacturing

If you build it yourself, you design differently. Feedback from the shop floor goes straight into the model.

To the Machinery Directive

We design so that you can place your machine on the market at the end.

Have a vision? Let's get started.

A sketch on a scrap of paper is enough to begin with. Describe the task to us and we will get back to you with an initial assessment.
